Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has revealed he does miss Spain and will likely make a return to La Liga at some point in his career.

The Belgian spent three seasons with Atletico Madrid, after joining the club on loan from Chelsea in 2011.

He enjoyed an impressive three-season stint at the Vincente Calderon, winning the league, Copa del Rey and Europa League and finished runners-up in the Champions League final.

Courtois has been a dominant No. 1 for the Blues since he returned to begin his Stamford Bridge career, but he does harbour strong ambitions to play in Spain again one day.

“Yes, but not only because of the club, but for how Madrid is and the entire country,” he told Spanish newspaper the Marca said.

“From the first minute I loved Spain for its people, the way of life, the food.

“Today I still have the food and eat dinner late, the siesta, the television I watch most is Spanish. I feel half Spanish.

“The three seasons at Atletico made me the goalkeeper I am now.

“When I said goodbye I felt bad, it’s not easy to make me cry.”

The 24-year-old has three years left to run on his contract and made it clear he will make a decision in two years time about whether to stay in England or depart for La Liga.

He added: “When I left Spain I knew that one day I would return there.

“I have a contract with Chelsea for three more seasons. In 2018, when I enter the last year of my contract, we will have to weigh up whether it is best to renew or leave.”
