Aaron Mooy (Melbourne City)
The Australian football public has known Mooy’s talent for some time, though the very best of that skill-set seems to have only come to the fore after the 25-year-old’s successful move to Melbourne City.
Hopes were high for Mooy’s progress when plying his trade in the UK but a move back to Australia has seen the player come on in leaps and bounds. He is now, arguably, the A-League’s best player and is fast becoming a central figure in Postecoglou’s thinking, with stunning set piece abilities the focal point of his skill-set.
Mooy’s stats from last season speak for themselves. Seven goals, seven assists, 88 – yes, 88 – chances created and an 82% passing accuracy in 26 appearances.
City were able to keep hold of their star man, tying him down to a three-year deal on marquee wages. Indeed, Mooy’s renewal represents a great show of faith in the league.
