Brisbane Roar collected the first three points of the season, winning 3-1 against home side Western Sydney Wanderers.

Western Sydney Wanderers

Andrew Redmayne (GK) – 4: Failed to assert his authority in the penalty box. Made a good save in a second half controlled by the Brisbane Roar.

Scott Jamieson – 6.5: Pushed forward at every chance he got but left gaps behind him on the left side of defence. His crosses at least look promising for the Red and Black’s upcoming season.

Nikolai Topor-Stanley – 5: Missed a golden chance to pull one back for the home team in the 40th minute. Made a few good clearances but distribution was less than impressive from central defence.

Brendan Hamill – 4: A clumsy error in front of goal led to Roar’s first goal of the night and lacked composure on the ball when distributing from defence.

Scott Neville – 5: Failed to make an impression in the right full-back position and was unable to provide anything offensively.

Jamie Maclaren takes on Wanderers full-back Scott Neville.

Jacob Pepper – 5.5: Industrious in the midfield but was overwhelmed by an excellent performance by the Roar’s Corona.

Dimas – 6: Cleaned up in the midfield and showcased some neat passing.

Jaushua Sotirio – 5.5: Showed off his pace on the left wing but failed to create anything meaningful when he had the ball in the front third.

Mitch Nichols – 7.5: Western Sydney’s best player and was everywhere tonight. Scored the side’s only goal with a cool finish.

Romeo Castelen – 6.5: Drifted centrally in the first period to create some early chances, but faded in the second half. Managed to create space for himself but lacks the ability to finish.

Federico Piovaccari – 5.5: Despite failing to score on three separate occasions, the Wanderers international marquee showed some glimpses that he could be a genuine threat in front of goal. So far though he is yet to impress.
