AS Roma claimed the bragging rights as they eased past city rivals Lazio 2-0 in the Derby della Capitale before an almost empty Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon.

The Giallorossi took the lead after 10 minutes when Edin Dzeko was fouled by Santiago Gentiletti and the referee pointed to the spot, however, replays suggested the incident occurred outside the box. The Bosnian converted to give Roma a 1-0 advantage at half time.

In the second-half, Rudi Garcia’s men continued to dominate and sealed the win through a superb Gervinho effort. The derby was somewhat subdued due to a fans protest, which lead to a disappointing attendance of 35,000.

AS Roma

Wojciech Szczesny – 6.5: Dealt really well with any crosses that came in the box and the few shots struck by Lazio. Much improved performance from previous weeks.

Lucas Digne – 6.5: Did well to keep Antonio Candreva quiet and offered some threat going forward.

Antonio Rudiger – 7: Put in a very mature performance among the defence. After a shaky start to his Roma career the centre-back is growing into his role in the Italian capital.

Kostas Manolas – 6.5: The Greek international was outshone by his younger defensive partner, but kept all of Lazio’s attacking threats at bay.

Vasilis Torosidis – 6: The 30-year-old looked to get forward but was unable to affect the game in any way. Was Roma’s poorest defender.

Radja Nainggolan – 6.5: The Ninja put in a typically battling performance at the heart of the Roma side. He held the upper-hand against his Lazio compatriot Lucas Biglia.

William Vainqueur – 6.5: The Frenchman shone in the Roma midfield. Vainqueur was solid throughout, halting Lazio’s attacks and disrupting their play. Was subbed-off after picking up a needless yellow card.

Iago Falque – 6: Tried really hard to cause problems and offered a lot thanks to his direst style. Overshadowed by the amazing Gervinho.

Mohamed Salah – 5.5: The former Chelsea man was unable to affect the game despite his previous good form. Taken-off on a stretcher with an injury to compound his disappointing day.

Gervinho – 8: Caused Lazio problems with his direct style and lightening pace. In the second-half he scored a superb goal as he fired the ball home after a great run. Received a deserved standing ovation when he left the field late in the game.

Edin Dzeko – 7: Earned the penalty early on and was cool enough to fire it home. It was a hugely important goal after a baron spell was ended midweek in the Champions League. Tired as the game went on.

Substitutes

Alessandro Florenzi – 6.5: Midfielder came off the bench and provided much needed spark when Roma were starting to fade. Considering he was returning from injury, he did well.

Seydou Keita – 6: The former Barcelona man brought on for Vainqueur and did ok. Continued the midfield dominance of the Giallorossi but missed an easy chance to make it 3-0 late on.

Iturbe – N/A: Was only on for 10 minutes.
