Manchester City rolled into the next stage of the Champions League and topped their group with a dominating second half display that saw them defeat Borussia Monchengladbach 4-2.

David Silva opened the scoring for the Citizens before City went down 2-1 just before half time. But Raheem Sterling struck twice late on in the game to give City the lead, while Wilfried Bony also grabbed a late goal to make sure his sure of the result.

The Sky Blues’ victory and Juventus’ loss to Sevilla meant that City topped the ‘group of death’ and the Italians finished runners-up. Sevilla will now drop down to the Europa league with the German side in last place.

 Manchester City

Joe Hart – 6.5: Made a few important saves, including a good save late on to keep his side in the game.

Gael Clichy – 6: Started in an unfamiliar right-back position instead of Bacary Sagna and struggled to hold his position on a few occasions. Showed initiative going forward.

Nicolas Otamendi – 5: City’s centre-back pairing continues to disappoint with Otamendi making a number of mistakes throughout the game.

Eliaquim Mangala – 5: Was not good enough on his return to the side as he struggled with the opposition’s pace.

Aleksandar Kolarov – 7: Moved up in attack towards the second half, getting involved in much of his side’s attacking play.

Yaya Toure – 4: The Ivorian was unusually sloppy in possession and was arguably City’s worst player on the night.

Fernandinho – 6.5: Came to life in the second half and upped his defensive display, cutting out a number of threatening passes.

Kevin De Bruyne 5: Not the best performance we have seen from De Bruyne this season as he struggled with his passing accuracy.

Fabian Delph – 6.5: Like most of his team mates, he came to life in the second half as he started to spread the play out well.

Raheem Sterling – 9: The young Englishman put in a fine performance on his birthday to help City top the group. He set up Silva for the opener before netting his brace with a couple of sublime efforts that gave his side the lead.

Substitutes

Jesus Navas – 6.5: Replaced De Bruyne in the second half and immediately showed how threatening his pace is.

Wilfried Bony – 7: Made a game-changing impact after he came on, setting up Sterling’s fine curling effort and also getting on the scoresheet late on.

Bacary Sagna – N/A: Late sub for Gael Clichy.
