Outside90’s Joshua Scarcella casts an eye over the five best individual performances coming from Matchday 2 of the Serie A.

Danielle Baselli (Torino vs Fiorentina)

The 23-year-old’s outstanding performance against a normally formidable Fiorentina midfield was the highlight of this particular match. Baselli displayed magnificent dribbling ability, delivered the corner for the first goal and added one of his own to seal the match that had the ability to make any global highlight reel.

His impressive round one performance will surely make Antonio Conte keen to see more of this talented Italian midfielder.

Valter Birsa (Chievo Verona vs Lazio)

The Slovenian has become a permanent member of the starting XI and also very popular among Gialloblu fans.

He managed to involve himself in three of the four goals scored by Verona, one of them being a stunning free kick just outside the area that found the top-right corner. His ability to find space in between the Lazio midfield was a joy to watch.

He will play a key role in Chievo’s season should their success continue.

Nicola Leali (Atlanta vs Frosinone)

Leali, who is on loan from Juventus, had an outstanding night between the posts despite conceding two goals in Frosinone’s 2-0 loss in Bergamo.

His defence was almost non-existent as Leali made nine saves for the match including a penalty, a free kick from long-range and four close-range shots. Atalanta had to resort to a goalmouth scramble and a brilliant strike from 25 yards to get the ball past the 22-year-old.

His efforts will delight both Roberto Stellone and his owners back in Turin, as Leali is one in a competitive group of Italian goalkeepers looking to be Gianluigi Buffon’s heir.

Nine saves

Miralem Pjanic (Roma vs Juventus)

Pjanic is becoming somewhat of a free kick specialist as he managed to score his first goal of the season from a set piece in which he had Buffon bamboozled. Perhaps the most impressive part of his performance, however, was his ability to control the midfield for almost the entire game as Roma enjoyed the majority of possession.

He leads a midfield that is fast becoming the best in the Serie A and one which will be a tough ask for any opposition teams to break down.

Stefan Jovetic (Carpi vs Inter Milan)

Jovetic’s 2014-15 campaign has started in what can only be described as sensational fashion. The centre-forward added another two goals to his tally, however this number could have been greater if not for Zelijko Brkic. Mauro Icardi may have some friendly competition on his return to the squad if Jovetic follows this trend.
