Another week and another loss for the defending champions as Nemanja Matic, Jose Mourinho and assistant Silvino Louro were all sent off during the 2-1 defeat to West Ham at Upton Park.

The champions found themselves behind yet again when Mauro Zarate thundered the ball past Asmir Begovic after the Blues failed to deal with a corner.

Chelsea’s frustrations continued later on as Ramires’ header was cleared off the line by Manuel Lanzini, with goal-line technology determining the entire ball did not cross the line. Three minutes later Cesc Fabregas was also denied after being ruled offside.

The Blues’ afternoon went from bad to worst when Matic received his second booking in nine minutes to leave Chelsea a man down heading into half time.

They would also be without assistant Louro and Mourinho, who were both banished from the touchline following their respective protests.

Gary Cahill clawed his side back into the match early in the second half, but substitute Andy Carroll would thwart the Blues’ hopes of gaining a result, as West Ham inflicted yet another defeat on an already wounded Chelsea.

Following the loss, Mourinho refused to speak to the media. This came just a day after he had suggested his relationship with the media would change.

Chelsea have already shipped 21 goals this campaign, having only let in 32 in the entirety of 2014-15 – the defensive stability of last season has evaporated.

In the Premier League era, no other Chelsea side has taken as few as 11 points from the opening 10 games. To put into perspective how poor the Blues’ start is, they are now one point worse off than Liverpool were under Roy Hodgson in 2010.
