Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is not sure how serious an ankle injury to star striker Harry Kane could be.

Kane scored the winning goal in this morning’s 1-0 win over Sunderland at White Hart Lane, but was forced off the field on a stretcher after a challenge from Papy Djilobodji.

The Spurs manager admitted he is waiting to hear a full assessment of the injury, but is confident he has adequate backup options after the summer signing of Vincent Janssen.

“We will find out tomorrow (Monday), Harry twisted his ankle and he felt pain in it. It could be a problem with his ligament but today is difficult to assess and give an opinion,” said Pochettino.

“It is difficult without him, but we signed Janssen, he’s working very well and he is a striker that can give us a lot of things.”

The Argentine believes that it is taking his players time to settle into a schedule now packed with other competitions, after most of the squad also featured at the recent Euro 2016 tournament.

“When you are involved in different competitions like the Champions League, it’s a new competition for us and we spent a lot of energy on Wednesday,” said Pochettino.

“It was different from the last two seasons when we were only playing in the Europa League, where we could rotate the squad and the starting eleven.”

“It’s new for us, and it’s important to learn, and sometimes you are surprised when you make changes.

Tottenham will next travel to face Middlesbrough on Saturday night.
