Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has broken yet another record, being the first player to reach six Champions League hat-tricks during Barcelona’s 7-0 decimation of Celtic this morning.
The four-time Ballon D’or winner took his tally past rival Cristiano Ronaldo’s mark of five with a typically classy performance, netting twice before, and once after the half-time break.
“That’s why he’s the best player of all time, without a doubt,” said Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, speaking to Goal.com.
“For his numbers and his footballing vision. He is total football.”
Messi also took his total Champions League goal count to 86, but may be eyeing-off Ronaldo’s current record of 94, such is the presence of Barcelona’s famous MSN this season.
Experiencing it firsthand was Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who told the BBC that his side had nothing to be ashamed of.
“They do that to much better teams than ourselves,” he said.
“It’s a front three that really can occupy as many players as you want. They are world-class players and they have shown big quality this evening”.
Socceroos playmaker Tom Rogic was expected to start for Rodgers’ side, given his recent form, however, did not make an appearance this morning.
