Real Madrid are back to their winning ways with a 6-0 rout against Espanyol at the Cornella-El Prat stadium last night.

Despite an early season stumble, the Los Galacticos are always threat both when playing at home and on the road. Coach Rafael Benitez’s men proved this with their six goal haul against Spanish minnows Espanyol.

Unfortunately for the home side the deadlock was broken just after the seven minute mark, with Ronaldo slotting home a Luka Modric cross. Silly goalkeeping mistakes then cost the hosts as the Portuguese star once again found himself in the right place at the right time for a second.

The 30-year-old proceeded to add another three to the tally, with Frenchman Karim Benzema executing an easy tap-in to add his name to the scoreboard.

All eyes on Ronaldo

It seems the words Ronaldo and record go hand-in-hand, as yet another has been broken by the deadly playmaker.

He is now Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer in the La Liga and his five goals against Espanyol saw him overtake that of former captain Raul Gonzalez.

Yet what is more astounding, is the time it took the 30-year-old to do so.

Ronaldo’s 230 goals were achieved in only 203 appearances for the Los Blancos, in comparison to Raul, whose haul of 228 came in 550 games. But of course that record is only set to increase as the season progresses.

It seems there will be no stopping the Portuguese in his continuing quest for glory.

Finally a united front

When Benitez took the reigns as coach, his main goal was to not only build on the team his predecessor Carlo Ancelotti had created, but also to unify the squad and return Madrid to thier former glory.

It seems his patience and persistence has paid dividends, with the Los Blancos appearing a team united for a common cause- victory.

Much of this can be accredited to Croatian midfielder Modric, who’s performance in the middle of the park was the glue which ensured the visitors would remain in the lead. His control in the midfield was crucial and anchored Real to their dominant win.

Add Gareth Bale’s deep runs into the penalty box and the attack became virtually unstoppable for the hosts. All were involved in the creation of goals, as Benitez’ men had numerous opportunities to make the scoreline even more painful.

If this 6-0 demolition was anything to go by, future teams should be wary.
