It only took one match of the 2016-17 Premier League season to produce a shock result, as the newly promoted Hull City recorded a 2-1 home win over Leicester earlier tonight.

Claudio Ranieri’s men appeared full of the confidence befitting of champions in the early stages, though while the visitors controlled possession, the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez where somehow held back by a shoestring Tigers defence.

After letting some glaring chances go begging, Hull would punish the title holders on the stroke of halftime when both Abel Hernandez and Adama Diomande produced stunning overhead kicks on the same loose ball inside the box – with the latter credited with the opening goal of the new campaign.

The Foxes were given a lifeline back into the match moments after the restart, however, when Tom Huddlestone’s challenge on Demarai Gray was incorrectly deemed to have occurred inside the box and Riyad Mahrez converted from the spot. Yet the surprises would not end there, as a long-range drive from Robert Snodgrass nestled in the bottom corner and provided Hull with a start to the season that they would hardly have dreamed of.

Here are the best reactions to come from Twitter after the match:
