Melbourne City produced a spectacular 2-1 win over their local rivals in a derby match which showcased the best of the A-League earlier tonight.

After Victory had the better part of the early momentum, it was John van’t Schip’s men who opened the scoring through Stefan Mauk’s 20th minute header. The home team’s advatnage was doubled just after the half-hour mark with a simple finish for Paulo Retre, yet the game was kept competitive when Besart’s Berisha classy volley pulled one back for the Victory before halftime.

The Albanian was also an illustration of the magnitutde this fixture brings, seemingly coming close to losing his head after some controversial refereeing just before the break.

Some truly breathtaking moments for produced in the second-half as the Victory pressed for an equaliser, only denied by the post on two occasions and forcing some heroics from Thomas Sorensen.
