A late Roy Krishna penalty was enough to earn Wellington Phoenix a share of the spoils in a controversial contest with Sydney FC earlier tonight.

Outside90’s Connor Clements casts an eye over the best performers at both ends of the pitch.

Wellington Phoenix

Glen Moss – 8: A solid performance by the Phoenix No.1. He made a few decent saves and looked competent at set pieces. Saved a penalty and a powerful header by Jaques Faty – nothing he could do about Fellipe Holosko’s goal.

Tom Doyle – 6: Decent showing by the young man, looking more and more at home as a starter. Defended capably against decent Sydney wide players. Won the penalty but got a yellow.

Louis Fenton – 5.5: Reasonable game. Just about kept out Sydney’s tricky wide players and was aware of the rotation. Was nutmegged in lead-up to penalty by Andrew Hoole and got a cynical yellow card. Succumbed to injury and replaced by Troy Danaskos.

Andrew Durante [c]– 6.5: The usual captains performance by Durante, worked hard and marshalled the troops well. Usual yellow card.

Manny Muscat – 6: Mr versatile brought his usual steel to centre-back again this week. Some key touches and a good performance. Harsh penalty giveaway.

Albert Riera – 7: Like he does every week, Riera shielded his back-line with aplomb again, such a consistent performer.

Roly Bonevacia – 6.5: Not his usual mercurial self, still one of the best players on the park. Was kept relatively quiet by Sydney.

Alex Rodriguez – 6: Slowly integrating into the Phoenix team after hardly getting a look-in early on. Playing better football following his extended midfield run.

Jeffrey Sarpong – 5.5: His lack of match fitness is showing as he lacks sharpness, needs more game time and a goal.

Roy Krishna – 7: Nowhere near the form in this game that has made him such danger this season. Some flashes of quality and good movement as usual. Scored crucial penalty to share the points.

Michael McGlinchey – 7: He always works and works! Was the best attacker for the Nix, and looked most likely to make something happen when in possession.

Substitutes

Troy Danaskos – 6: Did well in place of the injured Fenton.

Blake Powell – N/A: No impact.

Vince Lia – N/A: On too late to make any impact.
