Adelaide United continued their brilliant mid-season form with a 1-0 win over Newcastle Jets at Coopers Stadium to finish off round 17 of the A-League.
It was an open and flowing contest between these two sides – a welcome change for the Jets fans after their demoralising 6-1 loss to Perth last weekend.
Both teams had excellent chances with Enver Alivodic creating the best of the chances for the opposition while Craig Goodwin was shooting from range for the Reds.
Just before the break Adelaide were able to get themselves on the scoreboard through Marcelo Carrusca. Bruce Djite’s ball across the face of goal wasn’t cleared properly with the Argentine able to tap in from close range.
The second half saw much of the same with the Jets playing a lot better than last week but they were simply unable to get the ball in the back of the net.
The Reds’ chances came more frequently, and looked more threatening, than that of their opposition but ultimately Carrusca’s lone goal was enough to secure United the three points.
Here’s the best of the reactions from Twitter.

Reds have an Eli Babalj shirt hanging on the side of the bench. Jets, in turn, are going to set a Carney shirt alight at half time #ADLvNEW

Isn't it at this point in a match at Hindmarsh that you announce a marquee signing? #ADLvNEW #aleague

Djite playing with way more confidence today, or maybe it's just the weak opposition? #ADLvNEW

Definitely a card for Cowburn. But Hill is right: where's the one for Mells? He did the same thing earlier, plus has had 3 more? #ADLvNEW

This Newcastle Jets team isn't too bad and Miller has some good ideas, but the decision making of players is sometimes atrocious. #adlvnew

Do they not know the offside law? He was behind the ball when it was passed. #ADLvNEW
