We take a look at how the media reacted to a stunning win by the equally stunning Leicester.

We all thought the fairy tale was too good to be true, and that it would end soon enough.

But that, after Saturday’s heroics, still does not look on the cards.

Leicester travelled to the Etihad and stormed to a comprehensive 3-1 victory that shocked the globe, and confirmed their title credentials.

The reactions from the football media world were full of praise for an incredible Leicester, but fraught with criticism in equal measure for a disappointing Manchester City.

George Ankers of Goal.com reacted to the Foxes’ dominant display by labelling Manchester City as “flat-track bullies”, arguing that, despite their free spending and supposed strength in depth, they are yet to taste victory against any of their top six rivals in seven attempts.

Claudio Ranieri spoke pre-game about the need for his side to show “strength, soul and heart”. That is exactly what they did, but while ESPN FC‘s Simon Curtis had praise for the Foxes, he was scathing of Manchester City’s performance, labelling it “shoddy” and “disorganised”.

Pundits and fans alike have been quick to point out that title-winning trends of seasons past are in Leicester’s favour. The Mail on Sunday‘s Glenn Hoddle pointed this out, arguing the time has finally come to afford Leicester their due praise, lauding the completeness of the Foxes’ showing.

Andy Dunn of the Mirror echoed that sentiment, with a unique take. “They just laughed. And laughed,” as we fans continue to smile.

For the BBC‘s chief football writer Phil McNulty, a simple but key question arose that many of us would have been thinking after Leicester romped home. Can they handle the pressure of being title favourites? McNulty says their performance “stripped away the last shield keeping Leicester under the radar.”
