Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez became only the third player in the club’s history to score a Premier League hat-trick as he guided the Foxes to a 3-0 win over Swansea City on Saturday.
It only took five minutes for high-flying Leicester to open the scoring as Mahrez managed to get a head to the ball following a Marc Albrighton corner kick.
It was unclear whether the goal would stand as Mahrez’s with Ki Sung-yueng getting a piece of it, but the 24-year-old was eventually accredited with it.
A lovely flighted pass by N’Golo Kante found Mahrez who made it 2-0 inside 22 minutes.
The touch was exquisite as he controlled it onto his left side before calmly slotting it past Lukasz Fabianski to give the away side a two-goal lead.
The replay did show that Mahrez had strayed offside, but the Algerian international was not concerned with that.
Just after the hour-mark, Leicester put the result beyond doubt as Kante drove at the Swans’ defence before passing to Jamie Vardy, who set up Mahrez to complete his hat-trick.
The partnership of Vardy and Mahrez has been a revelation this season with the duo racking up an impressive 24 goals between them.
That return has seen the Foxes record nine wins this season and leaves them two points clear at the top of the Premier League.
So for becoming only the third Leicester player to score a Premier League hat-trick and sending the Foxes back to the top of table, Mahrez is Outside90’s Hero of the Week.
