Thomas Vermaelen – 2014 (£15m)
Vermaelen, who fell out of favour due to the ever-present pairing of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, sought a move away from the club and the Catalans came calling, forking out £15 million for the defender’s services.
In what can be seen as a terrific bit of business from Arsenal’s perspective, the Belgian has been plagued by injury throughout his Barca career spanning just over a year and a half, making just the one appearance in his first season and just seven so far this campaign.
The former Arsenal captain has yet to make a meaningful contribution for the Blaugrana as he continues to be on the periphery under Luis Enrique.
