Chelsea’s hopes of Romelu Lukaku returning to Stamford Bridge have been halted momentarily as Everton reject their £57 million bid.

The 23-year-old was in stellar form for Everton last season, netting 25 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions and his former employers are looking to lure him back.

Lukaku, who during his time at Stamford Bridge was unable to consolidate a starting berth and was subsequently loaned out to West Bromwich Albion, and then current employers Everton, has seemingly done enough to warrant a recall following a £28 million move away in July 2014.

The Belgian has led the line at Goodison Park over the past three seasons, and the Merseyside club will want to ensure he stays put.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has no doubt eyed Lukaku to be an important part of his side’s oncoming campaign and will not let him go cheaply.

Reports suggest Lukaku is keen to make the switch back to Chelsea but it is ultimately up to the Everton management, who will be keen to get as much as £75 million out of their Premier League rivals.
