Rejuvenated Adelaide United have thrashed Brisbane Roar 4-1 at Suncorp Stadium.
A Corey Brown own goal on 19 minutes broke the deadlock in a careful opening half, with both sides reluctant to waste the ball, but the action exploded to life in the second stanza. There was plenty to talk about – about the Roar in particular. Many bemoaned their toothlessness up front minus Olyroo Jamie Maclaren and a perceived poor performance by Spaniard Javi Hervas.
Similarly, much of the conversation surrounded the return of a forgotten star – a certain Red affectionately named ‘Owen Goal’, who scored for a fourth time this season.
What was polarising, however, was referee Jarrod Gillet’s decision to award Henrique a penalty early in the second half, with plenty of members of the social media world criticising the official. His call moments later to award the Reds a penalty was viewed in a much more favourable light, however, from which Bruce Djite finally found the net for the first time in 1,483 minutes.
Then, sure enough, the striker notched another!
There was a sour note though. Luckless United striker Eli Babalj went down late off the ball in awkward fashion, drawing fears of an ACL injury. Here’s the best of the goings on of Twitter.
