After a highly impressive campaign with club side Hertha Berlin, Vladimir Darida is looking to continue that success in the red of the Czech Republic.

Role in the team

Darida is the lynchpin that holds the Czech side together.

Whether played in an offensive number 10 role or a more defensive midfielder, it is Darida’s engine that gets his team going.

Having appeared 33 times for the national team, Darida came to the fore in qualifying where he played in every match.

The heir apparent to Tomas Rosicky, Darida is known for his intelligence and his quick feet as well as his engine. His range of passing will be key to the side as they look to break down defences while he will be needed to track back in front of a leaky back four.

Recent form

2015-16 was Darida’s most complete year.

Appearing 31 times for Hertha, he played more minutes than anyone in his squad outside of Marvin Plattenhardt.

In that time, Darida scored five goals and got two assists. He had the most completed passes in his side, and his passing ability will come into play at the Euros.

Key to his side’s qualification for next season’s Europa League, Darida’s stocks will have improved in his first season at the Olympiastadion, having joined from Freiburg at the beginning of the campaign.

In national team colours, Darida scored one goal as his side topped Group A in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Conclusion

To cap off what has been the finest year of his career, Darida will be looking to take his side far in the tournament. While he will need help from those around him it will be they who look to him for his distribution from the middle of the park.

While much will ride on his side’s defensive displays, it will be Darida’s ability to move the team forward which may take his side out of Group D.
