Poor finishing is poor football

In terms of entertaining 0-0 draws, this match certainly falls in that bracket. Swansea and Everton make up a batch of four or five clubs looking to challenge for European placings and both sides showed glimpses of their best.

Yet none of that good play could be capitalised on to put the cat amongst the pigeons. Both centre-forwards, Gomis and Romelu Lukaku, found space and went close on more than one occasion, though neither could break the deadlock. On balance, Gomis had the better opportunities.

As the match drew to a close, it was Everton who gained the ascendancy, with Gerard Deulofeu’s introduction making an impact. The Spaniard’s best moment came in the 71st minute, dribbling to the byline and threading a tantalising ball across the face of goal, only to be missed by Lukaku and Steven Naismith.

It is quite incredible that no goals were scored; the three points could have gone either way in an entertaining duel that, in the end, can be described as a disappointing outing for both teams.
