Are West Ham the league’s most potent counter-attacking outfit?
All of a sudden, over the last few seasons, West Ham have assembled a rather splendid bunch of players that no one knew, until this season, could be fashioned into a potent counter-attacking unit. The firm base, led and marshaled by Winston Reid. The attacking wing-backs, Jenkinson and Cresswell. The leggy dribbler Kouyate. And now, the skilled No. 10 Payet, to set up the hard runners, Sakho, Moses and the rest. They have scored an astounding seven goals away from home, in just three matches, all of which they have won. The teams they have played on their travels are all top four contenders. West Ham have been transformed by Slaven Bilic, and the sluggish and moping side that limped to the end of last season under Sam Allardyce is a shadow, now moping out of Upton Park. Who, if not Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City, can stop them from scoring?
