Pressure builds on Mourinho

The simple fact that faces Jose Mourinho is that this is the worst start to a season Chelsea has had in 37 years. Eight points in eight games is raising serious alarm bells around London and very little about their performances has suggested that this slump will be ending any time soon. Most worrying for the manager is that he has seen his side go from the most defensively tight, lowest conceding team in 14-15 to the having the second-worst defensive record so far in 15-16.

Ageing key players, misfiring stars, injuries, suspensions and a host of other things have gone into turning one of the powerhouses of English football into a side that looks like it will struggle to stave off relegation. We have seen in the case of Borussia Dortmund last season, whom were facing relegation at Christmas and managed to finish in seventh, that seasons can be turned around but much more was expected from this Blues side. Through all this, the prolific media presence of Mourinho has not waned and he continues to assert his belief that he is the right man for the job.

“I know what people are thinking, but it is not happening. I am not running away. I don’t run away from my responsibilities,” Mourinho said after the match.

Tough times for the Special One.

Despite winning the league last season, even the most confident manager in football must be starting to worry with such poor performance and knowledge that chairman Roman Abramovich has sacked someone for less (just ask Champions League winning coach Roberto Di Matteo).

“If they sack me, they sack the best manager this club has had.”
