10-man Chelsea were the architects of their own destruction, as West Ham took control, winning 2-1 at Upton Park.

Chelsea’s brief revival has stalled, horribly so, as they descended into bedlam at Upton Park. After a highly competitive first half an hour, a period that saw Mauro Zarate open the scoring with a neat, slapped half-volley, Nemanja Matic, a Chelsea assistant coach, and Jose Mourinho himself all contrived to get themselves sent to the stands before the second half started. A gut-punch of cataclysmic proportions, and, despite Gary Cahill’s equaliser, Chelsea were winded by it for rest of the evening. Andy Carroll, with neck muscles flaring, secured West Ham’s second victory over Chelsea since 2004.
