Chelsea conclusion

While they won the match against an Arsenal side decimated by poor referring decisions, there was an undoubted improvement in the Chelsea side which will provide optimism that this campaign can indeed come good, after what could only be described as an atrocious start. Moving slightly up the ladder into 15th, the Blues have a midweek League Cup commitment before traveling to St James’ Park to face bottom-place Newcastle. With Manchester City stumbling, anything is still possible for the reigning champions.

Arsenal conclusion

The Gunners would have seen this as the perfect opportunity to get a step-up on their fierce rivals and the manager they love-to-hate, yet either due to confidence or poor referring, once more they must travel back North with only bad memories from Stamford Bridge. Failure to sign a striker looks like it could really hurt Arsene Wenger this season, as Walcott still needs to find his feet and Giroud is falling out of favour with the fans. Another derby is next in line for Arsenal, who come up against Tottenham at White Hart Lane next weekend.
