Adelaide United flyer Craig Goodwin says a player heart-to-heart back in Round 4 following their 3-0 loss to the Brisbane Roar was a pivotal turning point for the Reds this season.

Goodwin told the Daily Football Show that despite the rocky start and the poor form that continued even after the heart-to-heart, the players set the tone early on and always had faith they would turn things around.

“It was after the Brisbane game when we lost 3-0 and the players got together and said we can’t be having digs at each other and sticking the finger. We have to stick together and if we stick together we’ll come out of this,” he said.

“We just spoke about sticking together and being patient.

“It was a bit of getting to know the system that Amor wanted was to play. During that whole period I don’t think it was every a question of our commitment, our desire to try things.”

The former Melbourne Heart and Newcastle Jets winger has had a career-best season on the park this season (evident by his standing in Fox Sports’ form rankings) and says their loss against Melbourne Victory in Round 8 was the moment everything clicked for the team.

“It after that game against the Victory, the second half of that we were pretty much all over them,” he said.

“From there onwards we just kept pushing on and getting better and better.”

Adelaide United have gone 14 matches unbeaten since that match and tackle Melbourne City at Hindmarsh tomorrow night.
