Perth Glory have dropped a bombshell, with new signing Chris Herd terminating his contract after only signing for the A-League club in May.

The 27-year-old Socceroo was due to arrive in Perth next week, however he is unable to relocate to Australia with his family at this point in time and as such requested to terminate his contract.

Glory CEO Peter Filopoulos said while disappointed with the decision, the club needed to be sensitive to Herd’s needs.

“After considerable deliberation and in the best interests of the Herd family, the club will not stand in their way and we take this opportunity to wish Chris and his family the best in their next chapter.”

Perth Glory boasts 14 WA born or raised players including Adam Taggart, Rhys Williams and Rostyn Griffiths and after a successful tour of the Philippines, the club looks forward to its Round of 32 Westfield FFA Cup match against Brisbane Roar on August 10 at Ballymore Stadium in Queensland.

The club has decided to make no further comment on the matter.
