It was an exquisite overhead goal by Bruno Fornaroli which will live long in the A-League memory.

It gets better for Melbourne City as they live to fight another day after their 2-0 downing of Perth Glory, heading down South to take on the awaiting Adelaide United.

It was not the first time ‘El Tuna’ scored a goal like that in his career. In the Uruguyan’s first season he netted a similar bicycle kick for Nacional in Montevideo.

Fornaroli said it was just instinct which led to him taking the risk that paid-off.

“I try every time, when you try and have the confidence, maybe something will happen. Today was good for me, if I continue (with confidence) I’ll score more goals,” Fornaroli said.

“It’s natural, when the ball comes I say ‘alright, maybe this is the moment’.

Coach John van’t Schip said he expected a big performance from the Uruguayan in the lead up to the game.

Fornaroli also scored a cracking free-kick to ice the game with 15 minutes to go. El Tuna conceded the manager’s comments fired him up before the start of the game.

“I like it, when you have big games, when I feel this I love it, I feel the football,” he said.

“It was a great night for the team, first home final, the last game we’re going to play at home this season and we won it like this, it’s perfect.

“The team worked hard today, we pressed everywhere and we won the ball.”

It can be said midfielder Aaron Mooy is Fornaroli’s partner in crime. In most of City’s success throughout A-League season 2015-16, both have been talking points in major moments.

Mooy said even he did not anticipate what the Urugayan was going to do when he opened the scoring.

“I had no idea he was going to do that, I was as shocked as everyone as else was,” Mooy said.

“Stuff like that, it gives the team a big boost, it changes the match like that. Everyone gets confidence from it, it’s unbelievable.”

Mooy also said he was pleased with the stirring win and was looking forward to taking on the Reds next week.

“It’s what everyone wants, I thought tonight we played really well,” he said.

“The last two weeks weren’t good enough and tonight we showed this is what we can do, it’s what we want to do for the rest of the season.

“Last year we got into the semis, that was a disappointing game, there was a few of us who were there. This is another chance for us, it’s a massive game.

“We’ve already beaten them, if we play our best we can beat anyone.”
