Newcastle Jets have announced Danish import Morten Nordstrand will remain with the Hunter club, signing a one-year contract extension.

The January signing has impressed since arriving in Australia in January, netting four goals in eight appearances.

The former Denmark international said was pleased to have extended his time in Newcastle, where he says he has enjoyed his stay.

“I have really enjoyed my time since I arrived in Newcastle,” Nordstrand said.

“Everybody at the club has been really kind and friendly, and they helped me settle in fast so I could show my qualities on the pitch.

“I am really happy to have found a club that appreciates me both as a player and a person, and am grateful that the Jets gave me the opportunity to come and play in Australia.

“That is why I am really happy to extend my time at the club, and this time I look forward to being here from the start of the season and doing a whole preseason.

“I came directly from holiday and had two training sessions before my first game, so I am excited to get the entire pre-season with the team.

“I think it (preseason) will help my game and make my fit to play 90 minutes at my top level.”

The Jets held their annual awards night on Friday night where Nordstrand’s round 20 strike against Wellington Phoenix was awarded goal of the season.

His re-signing will come as welcome news for Jets fans after the club released six players on Saturday.
