Brendon Santalab will be looking to make another match-winning impact as the Wanderers face Brisbane Roar this weekend.

The 33-year-old has brought new meaning to the term ‘super-sub’ in recent weeks, coming off the bench late in a contest to change the momentum and snatch victory for Western Sydney.

“My role in the team for now is very clear,” Santalab said to the media earlier today.

“I have to prepare each and every week like I will start the game…I just need to keep playing my role off the bench as best as possible.”

Santalab’s fifth goal of 2015-16 saw the Wanderers reclaim top spot on the A-League ladder in a 2-1 win, looping a strike over former teammate Ante Covic in the Perth Glory goal in the 85th minute.

“The ball had been played through and there is a goal to be scored,” he said.

“I’m going to go for the ball and try and score and that is simply what I did.

“It was a clean goal and one I’m very happy with.”

With the top three teams separated by just three points, every win between now and April could decide who takes out top spot honours.

“To come away with a win and a very important three points is crucial to our Premiers Plate hopes,” said Santalab.

The Wanderers face Brisbane at Pirtek Stadium on Friday night.
