Newcastle United and Manchester United produced arguably the Premier League game of the season as the visitors gave up the lead twice, with the Magpies salvaging a 3-3 draw.

Here are the best performers from a crazy instalment of this rivalry:

1. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) – The Manchester United skipper produced perhaps his best performance of the season. England’s greatest ever goalscorer was directly involved in all three of his side’s goals. Rooney grabbed himself a brace as he opened the scoring from the penalty spot on nines minutes, before putting scoring an absolute bullet from outside of the box in the 79th minute to once again give United the lead. Rooney found Jesse Lingard with a well-timed lay off to give the youngster his second senior goal for the Red Devils.

2. Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle United) – The Newcastle skipper was a shining light in defence, despite his side conceding three goals to the visitors. The Argentine passed the ball well at from the back, with the highlight of his passing the long ball to Aleksandar Mitrovic, who knocked the ball down to Georginio Wijnaldum to give the home side a route back into the match. The 33-year-old almost grabbed himself a goal with a well launched effort from the edge of the box in the 40th minute. Made a great tackle in the second half on Rooney to deny United doubling their advantage.

3. Aleksandar Mitrovic (Newcastle United) – After signing for Newcastle in the summer window Mitrovic came under heavy criticism and he produced arguably his best performance to date in a Newcastle shirt. Despite finding himself isolated on a number of occasions, Mitrovic held the ball up well and caused a major threat for centre halves Daley Blind and Chris Smalling. The former Anderlecht man took his penalty well – his first goal from the spot for Newcastle after missing his previous two attempts. The 21-year-old continued to press the United defence for most of the 90 minutes alone and this was well received by Newcastle supporters.
