In a late twist to tonight’s FFA Cup tie between Green Gully and Central Coast Mariners, it is believed the Kealba-based club are are lining up a shock late call-up for former Socceroos Ante Covic.

Outside90 understands that Gully have drafted in the veteran A-League keeper, with a senior club official picking him up from the Melbourne Airport this afternoon.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) are yet to approve his appearance, but it is believed host broadcaster Fox Sports are pushing the move.

According to a club insider, Gully are eagerly awaiting approval from the FFA given their dire goalkeeping stocks.

First-choice keeper Rani Dowisha is suspended after he received a red-card for handling the ball outside the area against Bentleigh Greens on Friday night, while the club has concerns over the match fitness of reserve keeper Sebastian Mattei.

Adding to their woes, U20’s keeper Mehmet Balci is injured, meaning the only other option outside of Mattei is a 15-year-old from the U18’s.

Outside90 will keep you updated with the developments.
