Juventus

Gianluigi Buffon – 7: The Italian wall stood firm for much of this game bar the hosts’ only goal, and made several key saves in the dying minutes to preserve the scoreline.

Stephan Lichtsteiner – 7.5: Scored the goal that put Juve in front and gave them ascendancy, then was part of the strong defensive effort following. Occasionally wandered too far inside late on, but otherwise great.

Leonardo Bonucci – 6.5: Struggled with passing throughout the game at only 68%, but made tackles when he was needed and was solid without being overly flashy.

Giorgio Chiellini 5.5: The captain’s mis-kick directly contributed to Fabian Johnson’s opener, failed to make a tackle and was just far from his usual self.

Patrice Evra – 6.5: Just a solid left-back performance from Evra, helping with the rearguard action when Gladbach pushed for a winner.

Stefano Sturaro – 6: Struggled throughout in the centre of midfield with 65% passing, never really able to impose himself on the contest.

Hernanes (Red Card 53’) – 2: Gets a poor rating purely because of the sheer idiocy of his attempted tackle. Was not really in the game before it and certainly was not after it.

Claudio Marchisio – 6: Was dispossessed in midfield on multiple occasions and struggled to shield the defence.

Paul Pogba – 8: A superb game from the young Frenchman – great passing, strong in the air and provided a delightful assist for Lichtsteiner to score the opener.

Alvaro Morata – 6.5: Morata was strong in the air throughout, but lost the ball on a number of occasions and struggled to really trouble Yann Sommer in goal.

Paulo Dybala – 6.5: The young Argentine was in much the same boat as his strike partner, as he struggled to really get into the game and lost the ball too often.
