Sydney FC will officially welcome back winger Bernie Ibini on a season-long loan from Club Brugge for 2016-17.

The 23-year-old returns to the club where he arguable had the most success of his career so far, scoring seven goals while playing a key role in a Sky Blues side which broke records and finished runners-up in the 2015 Grand Final.

“I’m excited to be home and can’t wait to be back out in front of Sydney FC’s great fans,” said Ibini.

“I played some of the best football of my career the last time I was here and I’m confident I can do the same this time.

Having signed with Brugge at the beginning of 2015-16, Ibini tragically suffered a broken fibula during his first training session – cutting short his hopes of gaining valuable experience among the team over the campaign.

“Unfortunately injury cut short my season in Europe last year but with the facilities and quality of the medical staff at Sydney FC I’ll be ready to go in round one.”

Sky Blues coach Graham Arnold claims the signing is indicative of how his squad is progressing for the upcoming season, while his abilities on the ball are sure to entertain crowds once again.

“I think everyone is well aware of what a great talent Bernie Ibini is and how highly I rate him,” Arnold said.

“He is quick, has a great football brain and plays quality attacking football. He also has a fearsome shot and I know opposition defences do not enjoy playing against him.

“He will be a huge asset to the club and it’s fantastic for the Hyundai A-League to have him back in the competition.”
