The gang had the pleasure of speaking to good friend of the program Ben Sigmund on the Daily Football Show.

On a sad day for New Zealand sport with the unexpected passing of former All Blacks star Jonah Lomu, Sigmund said the entire nation was in mourning.

With Sigmund not unfamiliar to the sport, having taken a year off in his junior years to switch to rugby, the defender said the news really hit home to him personally and at the Wellington Phoenix.

Moving to football matters,  and the evergreen defender maintained his optimism for the Wellington Phoenix’s future, despite the embattled club’s off-field concerns in recent weeks.

After last week’s stunning performance, Sigmund said Roly Bonevacia is up and about around the dressing room but the whole squad has been reeled in by the mindful Ernie Merrick.

The ‘Nix’ face the prospect of travelling across the ‘dutch’ this weekend as they meet a resurgent Western Sydney Wanderers outfit at Pirtek Stadium.

Sigmund said after facing an “all over the place” WSW in pre-season, Tony Popovic appears to have the team united and playing some terrific football, with Mark Bridge and Mitch Nichols two key threats picked out by the Phoenix defender.
