Tommy Oar: Intensity the key for Brisbane Roar victory

Tommy Oar has pinpointed intensity as the chink in travelling Melbourne Victory’s armour.

Oar and his Brisbane Roar team mates piled the pressure on a depleted Victory side at AAMI Park on matchday 27 in their hunt for the Premiers’ Plate but ultimately failed to find the back of the net, thanks largely to inspired goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas, and were made to settle for third.

But with a rematch all set for Friday night at Suncorp Stadium, Oar says Brisbane can be confident of exposing the reigning champions with fast-paced football, fleet of foot and, most importantly, goals.

A-League Finals – The case for Brisbane Roar

The Australia winger predicts Victory will struggle to keep up with the men in orange.

“If we can match the same intensity we went in with at the weekend (in the draw against Victory), I think Melbourne is going to struggle to keep up,” Oar said.

“Other teams don’t like coming to Suncorp so there a lot of reasons for us to be confident.

“We know if we get into those areas consistently, the goals will come.

“A lot of players have gotten on the score sheet this year and it was just a coincidence we all had an off day on the same day. I am sure that wont’ happen again.

“It is unpredictable time of the year but we have a lot of players here who are big-game players.

“We can carry that into this game and use our experience in these matches to get us across the line.”

John Aloisi will have a plethora of attacking options to choose from, with Brandon Borello, Henrique and Dimi Petratos, among others, all available.

A win for the Roar would see them secure an away date with Western Sydney Wanderers.
