Sergio Aguero is likely to miss the Manchester Derby after being charged with violent conduct for appearing to elbow Winston Reid in Sunday’s 3-1 win against West Ham.

England’s Football Association have charged the Manchester City striker, with the likely sanction set to rule him out of action for three matches.

If found guilty, the 28-year-old would miss matches against Manchester United and Bournemouth in the Premier League, as well as City’s clash with Swansea in the third round of the EFL Cup.

“Off the ball incidents which are not seen at the time by the match officials are referred to a panel of three former elite match officials. Each panel member will review the video footage independently of one another to determine whether they consider it a sending-off offence,” a statement from the FA read.

“For retrospective action to be taken, and an FA charge to follow, the decision of the panel must be unanimous.”

The possible suspension lands a further blow to Aguero, who has already been ruled out of his country’s World Cup Qualifiers against Uruguay and Venezuela with a calf injury.
