Perth Glory asserted their dominance across the A-League with a huge win against a Brisbane team who were sitting atop the league. A variety of goal scorers made it a game to remember for the Perth Glory faithful who will now be hoping for a tilt at the title, with only a few rounds left in the league.

Attack on point, defence non-existent

What a first half it was in a game that went from one end to another. 4-3 at half time left everyone speechless. Brisbane would take the lead while Perth Glory would fight back. NIB Stadium was rocking, Brisbane were reeling. Adam Peacock was speechless at half time as no one knew how to explain how the first half unfolded.

The revitalised Andy Keogh scored first, Jamie Maclaren responded. Dimitri Petratos scored a penalty won by the hard working Maclaren. Chris Harold put the Glory back into the league until Jade North equalled the scores three minutes later, only to be followed up by Nebjosa Marinkovic another three minutes later. Shane Lowry finished off the first half in a positive way for Perth Glory by scoring a power header off a wonderful corner. Diego Castro scored an early second-half penalty to put the Glory 5-3 ahead, until Garcia finished off the game in style, leaving Brisbane reeling.

How Twitter reacted to Perth Glory’s 6-3 win over Brisbane Roar

There is no easy way to explain the first half. It was end-to-end, goal for goal. Both attacks looked to exploit the many holes in the opposition attacks. Keogh was exuberant, while Harold looked to be fulfilling his potential. If Perth continues to play with this vigour then a finish in the top four does not look out of the question.

For both teams’ defences, this game was not good enough. A game with this many goals makes people look to only one issue. Neither defence was able to contain the other. While Brisbane has been able to continue maintaining their position at the top of the table, it has not come without issues. Their defence has had their fair share of issues, and Aloisi does not seem to have completely solved their issues. It seems as if Luke DeVere will be welcomed back to the starting line-up sooner rather than later.

Jamie Maclaren makes up for Brisbane’s Blushes

Without Maclaren up front the game may have been much worse for Brisbane Roar. He scored a goal that looked slightly offside and earned Brisbane’s penalty in somewhat dubious circumstances as a push in the back looked to have been slightly exaggerated. Without those two goals the game would have been much worse.

While Perth’s attack was potent from all angles, with five different scorers taking part in the scoring exploits from the team from Perth, Brisbane’s was slightly one sided. Maclaren looked to be the only outlet. Even when Henrique entered the game for Brandon Borrello there was not a huge deal that changed.

This array of attacking talent for Perth was a stark contrast to a Brisbane team who looked bereft of any other outlet other than the main striker.

Perth may truly be the real deal

The jury is still out on Perth’s finals credentials, however more results such as this game against Brisbane points to a team on the rise. It has taken almost a year since the salary cap saga for Perth to recover their form, but now they look to be on the cusp of the top six.

It will take a few more games for people to really believe that Perth can challenge for the title, however, should Perth continue to gain results against the current league leader then it is only a matter of time before Perth are beside Brisbane. The combinations out wide, the strengthening midfield, combined with the form for Castro makes for Perth team that people will judge at their own risk.

Brisbane now come up against the form team in the A-League, Adelaide United, while the Glory play Western Sydney Wanderers in another test of their title credentials. Brisbane will have to come out firing against an Adelaide side that handed the Queensland team a huge defeat in their last meeting.
