Fearless Mark Birighitti shines between the sticks
It was Newcastle Jets goalkeeper Mark Birighitti’s return between the sticks after a horror collision with Shane Smeltz in Round 2 of the A-League that saw the striker’s studs meet his face.
However, Birighitti was unfazed in the clash against Western Sydney, notching up three important saves in the first half to keep his side in the match and continued his good form into the second half. Most notably, in the 23rd minute Birighitti dived low and dangerously close to Piovaccari’s outstretched boot, showing impressive mental strength after his recent collision and injury.
