Adelaide United’s 14-match unbeaten run was snapped by Melbourne City on Friday night.

Which players were crucial to the win?

Harry Novillo (Melbourne City)

The Frenchman looked the most likely of the big three throughout the 90 minutes with his tricky dribbling and pace troubling the Adelaide United defence. The former France youth international tried a number of efforts from range, none of which prevailed but ensured Eugene Galekovic was switched on. The 24-year-old found himself positioned dangerously off the ball numerous times, however he was not found by team mates. He could have had himself a goal if Bruno Fornaroli had have got his head up earlier as City looked to hit on the counter.

Craig Goodwin (Adelaide United)

Goodwin continued his good run of form with a strong performance out wide for the home side. Arguably unlucky to miss out on a spot in the recent Socceroos squad announced on Wednesday, the winger looked the most likely to create something for his side. From the opening moments, the former Newcastle Jet showed his intent as he whipped a dangerous ball into the six-yard box. The 24-year-old swapped wings at half time and he became more of a focal point for his side, which he seemed to thrive on.

Osama Malik (Melbourne City)

Playing in the holding midfield position, Malik produced arguably his best performance since his January move to Melbourne City as part of the swap deal which sent Stefan Mauk the other way. The 25-year-old dominated the air in midfield, going largely unchallenged in the air for majority of the night. The versatile midfielder showed a terrific passing ability as he controlled the tempo of the match alongside Aaron Mooy, who assisted his 19th goal of the season.
