Montero too much for Kyle Walker

Kyle Walker could not handle the pace of Montero on the left-hand side. The Ecuadorian consistently got past until Walker made a challenge that referee Mike Dean deemed too much. The defender received a ticking off but no more. Erik Lamela needed to come back more often in support and was eventually subbed by Mauricio Pochettino after a frustrating game for the Argentine. Andros Townsend came on to play a counterpart to Montero’s pace.

Time and time again, Montero swung a dangerous cross in after not being closed down quick enough. He was able to play the ball comfortably and consistently, providing chance after chance.

The Swansea winger hogged the touchline and was almost always used in attacking play. Spurs did not learn their lesson and let him get away with it far too often.

Walker was better in the second half and Montero had less freedom to play the way he wanted to.
