Weeks after the last international break, another round of World Cup qualifiers awaits.
This time Australia travels to Jordan in what will be their toughest trip of the group. The game will be on Thursday 8 October at 5pm local time in Jordan with a 1am Friday kick-off in Australia.
Ange sticks with what worked last time
The bulk of the squad from the last international games have carried over to this one with Postecoglu almost settling on a core group of players that will help carry the side to Russia. Tim Cahill will captain the team as the most experienced squad member but there is still plenty of experience to lean on, mainly in mature midfield duo Matt McKay and Mark Milligan.
Working with the Olyroos
With the Olyroos also playing during this window, concessions had to be made to give both sides the greatest chance of success. Both Jackson Irvine and Chris Ikonomidis will play with the under-23 side as they prepare for January’s qualifiers with two matches against South Korea. Neither was likely to feature against Jordan so giving them an opportunity to play was determined the best decision in terms of aiding their development.
