Schubert is developing Gladbach’s press

Under Lucien Favre, Gladbach’s pressing style centred on more lateral movement, forcing players wide and cutting out options. However, in the two games under interim manager Schubert, it appears the side is beginning to adapt to a more gegenpressing style of offensive defence. With Lars Stindl now moved into a forward role with Raffael, the impetus for the press begins there, putting the opposition back line under pressure and then moving back down the field with the ball if the side advances.

In only two matches, it has arguably served to create more chances for Die Fohlen, as their pacy players are able to fully utilise their natural gifts.
