Rangers finally got a win against Bolton last fortnight after enduring an awful run of games throughout September.

Tipped for promotion, the London club are currently 11th on the league table and have openly displayed a lack of confidence and character, especially in defence.

In order to rectify the situation, we suggest a few ideas that could see the Rs back to their best.

Rethink the back four

Rangers have been shooting themselves in the foot for the last few weeks. Nedum Onouha and Garbriele Angella have both been culpable for allowing their opposition an incomprehensible amount of space in their own six-yard box, especially in crossing situations. Such schoolboy defending really calls into question the ability of the central pair to read the game.

Rangers have the worst defensive record in the league, with only Bristol City as their equals. A possible solution is to bring back Grant Hall in place of Angella. Hall, despite his inexperience, played with confidence during Rangers’ good run in August. However, thought has to be given to the full-backs as well.

James Perch’s performances have been underwhelming, yet replacing him with one of the club’s younger right-backs would carry its own set of risk. On the opposite side, Paul Konchesky has looked a new player recently, particularly against Bolton, where his work rate was praiseworthy. Given the amount of left-backs vying for the position, we may see a change.

Slot in Sandro

The Brazilian has been looking good for the under-21s and would bring in some much needed class deeper in the QPR line. Sandro did get 15 minutes in Rangers’ last home win over Bolton and almost made his presence known immediately with a whizzing drive from 30 yards. His defensive capabilities were also apparent with a couple of nice interceptions.
