Andre Schubert clinched his second win in two matches as Borussia Monchengladbach manager overnight as his team triumphed away at Stuttgart, thanks to a Granit Xhaka header and Christian Gentner’s own goal.

The hosts made their way back into the game via Daniel Ginczek’s penalty, but despite numerous chances missed in the closing stages, they could not find an equaliser. Raffael raced away from the home defence late on to seal the win, condemning Stuttgart to their sixth loss of this season.

Gladbach have a penalty problem

Lack of discipline? Poor judgement? Who knows, but moving forward this season, it is clear that Borussia Monchengladbach have a problem with giving away penalties. After giving away two penalties to Augsburg midweek, they conceded another here. A clumsy aerial challenge on Daniel Didavi saw the referee point to the spot. With new boss Schubert already making a positive impact on the side, he would do well to focus on this area as his next target. Playing well enough to win their games now, it would be cruel to be let down by a few silly mistakes each week.
