Hertha Berlin

Rune Jarstein – 5.5: A rough night in goal for the Berlin custodian, who did all he could to stop Fabian Johnson before Oscar Wendt rifled in the opener. His afternoon went down from there.

Mitchell Weiser – 6: Started at right-back before been shifted forward to the wing – had a relatively quiet night despite a few attacking forays.

Sebastian Langkamp – 5.5: Gave away the penalty that gifted the visitor’s a goal and struggled to find his groove all night in a disjointed defense.

Fabian Lustenberger – 6: Had a marginally better night than his partner in crime with strong passing out of the back, but was still part of a defence that conceded four.

Marvin Plattenhardt – 6: A valiant effort at left-back, with some good passing and strong tackling, however, struggled with Ibrahima Traore at times.

Vladimir Darida – 6.5: With 92% passing accuracy, Darida did his best to stop the rot in midfield and contributed a couple of tackles, but Xhaka and company eventually proved too strong.

Per Skjelbred – 6: Like Darida alongside him, faced the brunt of the storm in midfield, but did not respond quite as strongly, with wayward passing and poor use of possession.

Genki Haraguchi – 6.5: Toiled away on the left of the attacking midfield trio, with a couple of good dribbles and some good passing, but to little avail.

Tolga Cigerci – 7: Stationed in central-midfield, he played well like Haraguchi with some direct running and smart passing, helping to create chances that went astray.

Valentin Stocker – 5.5: Largely ineffectual and this resulted in him been substituted, with passing below 60% and gifting possession to Gladbach on a couple of occasions.

Salomon Kalou – 6: Tested Sommer early with a low drive but really struggled to impact the game otherwise, and was withdrawn on half-time.

Substitutes

Alexander Baumjohann – 7.5: Came on at half time for Kalou, and played well, with a number of strong dribbles and some good passing, and also converted the spot-kick that gave Hertha a slight shine on the scoreboard.

Ronny – 5: The result was well beyond gone when he was introduced

Borussia Monchengladbach

Yann Sommer – 7: A strong night in goal, let down only by yet another Gladbach penalty handout. Has been in good form since his injury and appears almost back to full power.

Harvard Nordtveit – 8: Deputising at right-back for Julian Korb, Nordtveit made three tackles and won six aerial contests, before getting in on the act with a goal.

Andreas Christensen – 6.5: Calm, composed and with not a whole lot of work to do at the back in this display, but Christensen continues to show himself as an assured pick in this side.

Alvaro Dominguez – 6.5: Much like Christensen, Dominguez never looked troubled, but his six aerial duel wins and a tackle shine light on a composed performance.

Oscar Wendt – 8: Yet another strong showing when hurtling down the left-hand side, dominant in the air and with great passing, capped-off with the opening goal for his side.

Mahmoud Dahoud – 7: Dahoud played the usual role of foil to Xhaka’s running of the side, with a controlled, supporting outing in midfield showing a great eye for a pass.

Granit Xhaka – 8.5: A man of the Match performance from the Swiss, resuming his normal metronome role in midfield and was at the heart of everything Gladbach did. Got his name on the scoresheet from the penalty spot to cap a fine performance.

Ibrahima Traore – 8: His pace and directness caused problems all game, none more so than when he was pulled back by Sebastian Langkamp, to win the penalty that delivered Gladbach’s third goal.

Fabian Johnson – 7: Delivered the assist for Oscar Wendt’s opener and was a workhorse down the left.

Lars Stindl – 6.5: An unusual sight, Stindl did not get his name on the scoresheet this time, however, his passing and pressing helped set the tone and make chances for strike partner Raffael.

Raffael – 8: The brilliant Brazilian scored his fifth in five games and setup another in a brilliant performance, as he led from the front and was a constant thorn in Hertha’s side.

Substitutes

Marvin Schulz – 5: Little creativity and passing lacked accuracy.

Thorgan Hazard – 5.5: Lively, but not enough time to make an impact.

Branimir Hrgota – N/A: Only played the last few minutes.

The result in Berlin means that at the end of Matchday 11, Gladbach have jumped Berlin and now sit in fifth, an incredible position considering their start to the season. With their league form well and truly on track, Schubert’s men must now look to a crunch home a Champions League tie against Juventus this week. For Berlin, they must now get their pieces back together and prepare to face Hannover in the early match next weekend.
