The Western Sydney Wanderers claimed their first win of the season, after securing a comfortable 1-0 victory over Perth Glory in wet conditions at Pirtek Stadium.

The hosts dominated the first half and were rewarded just before the break, when Dario Vidosic found the net after being afforded time and space in the area to drive a fierce shot past Ante Covic.

Perth produced an insipid performance, and despite coming close to equalising from long range twice in the second half, they can have no complaints about leaving West Sydney empty-handed.

Western Sydney Wanderers

Andrew Redmayne – 6: Looked nervy at times, especially when dealing with the high ball, but managed to keep a clean sheet and wasn’t really tested with any shots.

Scott Neville – 7: Part of a Wanderers defence who were barely tested. Used the time and space to his advantage, got forward and caused Perth problems.

Alberto – 7: Was barely challenged by Perth’s striking pair of Sidnei and Richard Garcia, and was easily able to win the matchup.

Nikolai Topor-Stanley – 7: Like Alberto, was barely tested, but easily dealt with the rare problems Perth posed.

Scott Jamieson – 7: Looked equally strong in defence and attack. His crosses were always dangerous, including one late in the second half which almost resulted in a Brandan Santalab goal.

Andreu – 7: Helped run the show, against a Perth midfield who offered very little in response. Like a few of his other teammates, faded slightly in the second half.

Dimas – 6.5: Endured a slow start to the game, but slowly improved in the second half. Showed some promising signs of creativity in the final third.

Mitch Nichols – 7: Strong game in the middle of the park, but he’ll be disappointed with his final ball, which failed to find its target on a few occassions.

Dario Vidosic – 7.5: Man of the Match. Always dangerous in the first half. Nearly scored a bullet, only to be denied by a wonderful Covic save, before opening the scoring. Quieter in the second half, but still proved a handful.

Jaushua Sotirio – 6: Got on the ball a lot in the final third thanks to his clever movement, but his final ball let him down on a few occassions.

Federico Piovaccari – 5: Looked lazy at times off the ball. The closest he came to making an imprint on the match was when he nearly kicked Risdon in the face with an acrobatic bicycle kick.

Substitutes

Mark Bridge – 5: Failed to impose himself on the game when he came on, despite getting into a few dangerous positions.

Jonathan Aspropotamitis – 6: Came off the bench to replace an injured Alberto and slotted in nicely alongside Topor-Stanley.
