Who are Europe’s tastiest players with expiring contracts, and what EPL club should grab them?

Thanks to the work of Jean-Marc Bosman back in 1990, players in European leagues can now bat their eyes without restraint at other European clubs, once their contracts have less than six months remaining. As we tick over into January, a number of players have hacked through the jungle into this fine, open clearing, where the view is uninterrupted, ready to negotiate a new home for themselves for next season.

It’s a tricky thing, this Bosman business, because it requires clubs to wait six months before picking up their shiny new players; Bournemouth have already proven too skittish for the waiting game, loaning in Roma’s Juan Iturbe – with a view to purchase – even though his contract with the Italian club ends in June. No, teams with urgent requirements have to open their wallets, but those content to bide their time can snap up some fabulous bargains.
