Ah, Hatem. We thought we’d seen the end of you, seen off that intoxicating cocktail of remarkable highlights and an equally remarkable ability to disappear entirely from matches. The moping, the showboating, the dummy soaring, specks of spittle caught in its slipstream, through the cold night air; though a small part of us misses it dearly, we thought it was over. But no, we were wrong, and perhaps we’re glad we were.
Ben Arfa has been a human highlight reel at Nice, scoring seven times in 18 appearances, with most of those goals being absolute worldies. We can probably rule out Newcastle as a potential destination, but perhaps a team might be silly enough to have a gamble… we’re looking at you Stoke. Imagine that, Bojan, Shaqiri, Arnautovic and Ben Arfa all whizzing around like children dizzy on green cordial. Mark Hughes was once manager of QPR, so he knows the damage indulgent purchases of risky talents can do, but still… wouldn’t it be fantastic?
