Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Paris Saint Germain

One name immediately glints, like 24-carat gold, catching the eye before the rest. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, ripened beautifully at age 34, remains a potent, magnetic striker, as well as a grand marquee name. Having spent the last three seasons in Paris, rolling lazily to three straight league titles, Zlatan might be feeling a little bored in France. Still too good for an American or Chinese retirement plan, but too old for a big-money move to a genuine Champions League contender, the Swede needs a home for another year or two, just to tide him over into the proper twilight of his career. Zlatan club resume is one of history’s most glittering, strolling in and out of various members of the European footballing aristocracy. Except there is one gap on his CV; perhaps a sojourn in England, eh Zlat?

What club is in need of a proper superstar striker, who can still score, and could coax Ibrahimovic into a short-term contract with stories of their grand history? Perhaps a club that may well be hiring one of Zlatan’s beloved former managers in the near future? The narrative is thus: Jose Mourinho is hired by Manchester United, and reunites with his former Inter hitman for a cheek-to-cheek waltz on the hallowed turf of the Theatre of Dreams. That, if nothing else, is tasty. Zlatan said this about Mourinho a few seasons ago: “We worked together for one year at Inter. The feeling was great between us and my only regret is that we were together for only one year.”

Likely Destination: Manchester United (we hope).
